First off, this is not my basement guest bedroom. Sure, I'd be more than happy to claim this room, it looks awesome. I can't decide just yet which guest bedroom ideas I want to go with so my basement guest bedroom is actually a workshop.
A workshop where men hangout, fix things and watch baseball on a Saturday afternoon on an old tv and drink beer from cans that they can crush with their hands. However, I could build this room and so could you, here's how:
A. The Wall Frame
Let's start with the obvious one. What looks like a frame for the head of the bead is really just a trim box made from standard 1.5" trim with a simple 45 degree miter cut. Nothing fancy here if you've been finishing your basement on your own. Doing trim work yourself isn't hard to learn and can save you some bank! (You would need a trim nail gun, air compressor and miter saw to get started).
It's hard to tell for sure from the picture but I would say the trim paint is semi-gloss to contrast against the flatter egg-shell finish of the darker brown on the wall. [Read more...]
